The University of Georgia is now accepting proposals for the second phase of the New Approaches to Diversity and Inclusion Program. The program, which supported 21 programs last year, is being renewed with $300,000 in private funds set aside by President Jere Morehead. Morehead commented on the need for increased diversity during his State of the University address in January.
“Are we where we want to be? No, not yet. But I believe we’re making steady progress,” Morehead said.
Morehead listed some of the steps taken over past five years toward the goal of increasing diversity which include the RISE Scholarship initiative, a year-long leadership development program geared toward under represented students; the ALL Georgia program, which the targeting rural students; and the Benham Scholars Program in the Law School.
“A portion of the funds will be designated for the continuation of projects from the first phase that have demonstrated the greatest promise for impact as well as a sustainable funding model,” Morehead said. “The remaining funds will be allocated for the development of new initiatives to enhance the academic experience of underrepresented, first generation, rural and other underserved students.”
The Phase Two grant program to spur new initiatives to promote recruitment, retention and success of underrepresented students.
Proposals for new funding will be accepted through May 8, 2019.
