A University of Georgia Fraternity has come under fire after messages in a private group chat have been made public.
On Sunday the University of Georgia's chapter of Lambda Chi Alpha announced they would be self-suspending all operations over the release of messages from a private GroupMe.
The group message, titled “Sex, Drugs, and Darby House” included racist, sexist, and homophobic messages from members of the fraternity.
In a statement posted to Twitter last night, Interfraternity Council President Brennan Cox said that the council has notified the UGA Equal Opportunity Office.
The statement went on to include that the remarks were, “odious to the Council’s desire for any member of the University community to feel welcomed in Greek life and on campus.”
Screenshots of the messages have been shared on a number of social media platforms including the Instagram Account abolishgreeklifeuga, and the Twitter Account of UGA Student Arianna Mbumwe.
On Monday the University released a statement calling the messages outrageous and offensive.
