Athens-Clarke County Commissioners will be taking a look at a proposal to purchase 9 hybrid SUV's for the police department.

The plan is one of many items on the Commission's agenda at their April 6 meeting. The total cost for the nine Ford Interceptor SUVs comes to $393,000 and the bulk of the money will come from the county's Fleet Replacement Fund, while some $30,000 for the proposed purchase would come from SPLOST funds earmarked for hybrid vehicles.

ACC officials estimate that the hybrid SUVs would save the county some $48,000 over eight years while cutting CO2 emissions by 273 tons.
