Clarke Board of Ed approves new district maps

The Clarke County Board of Education voted last night to approve newly-drawn maps for its nine BOE districts. While many aspects of redistricting – like those involving state legislative and congressional districts - are contentious and complex, the process of drawing new districts for school board members was quick – requiring just a couple of minutes of discussion in an hour-long school board meeting before the new maps were unanimously approved by Board members.

The new maps – required every ten years after the US Census – were drawn by the General Assembly’s reapportionment office, and other than balancing districts to accommodate population changes, make few significant changes to the status quo.
