Governor Brian Kemp responded this morning to yesterday’s Board of Regents vote to name former Governor Sonny Perdue the sole finalist for the position of chancellor of the University System of Georgia.

Governor Kemp congratulated Perdue on the selection in a statement he published on Twitter. He said Perdue was qualified for the job, citing his role as chair of the Georgia State Senate’s Higher Education Committee.

USG’s chancellor oversees policy decisions and curriculum development and Perdue has been criticized for his lack of experience in schools.

USG said the board will take action on the chancellor position at a future meeting.
