Athens-Clarke County Commissioners are set to vote Tuesday on loosening up ACC’s mask mandate for county employees. Martin Matheny has more.
The county’s vaccine mandate for its employees, which commissioners passed last September, isn’t changing. What is changing however, is the rules around mask wearing.
After the CDC updated its mask guidelines last month, county staff updated ACC’s policy to follow suit, and if commissioners approve, masks will only be required for county employees during times of high transmission. Current CDC data indicate that Clarke County is seeing moderate transmission.
The updated proposal also makes a few administrative changes to the policy, including tying any move to reinstate masking directly to CDC data, rather than requiring a Mayor and Commission vote.
Following the special called session to vote on the masking changes, commissioners will have a work session to discuss salary, compensation, and turnover among county employees.
