Oconee BOE advances schools budget

$90 million package lowers millage rate, gives employees raises.

Oconee County Board of Education members gave tentative approval for the fiscal year 2023 budget at their Monday night meeting. The $90-million-dollar measure includes salary hikes for employees, 19 additional staff positions, and daily pay increases for substitute teachers. In addition, the budget calls for a decrease in the millage rate. Budget hearings are scheduled for May 16 and 23, with a final vote scheduled for June 6th.

The Clarke County School Board is also expected to pass its budget in early June.
