A group of health professionals is among advocates calling for the FDA to quickly finalize a plan to ban menthol cigarettes. Delmonte Jefferson, Executive Director for the center for black health and equity, says 85% of African Americans who smoke, smoke menthol cigarettes. He adds, some 45,000 Black Americans die each year from tobacco-related diseases.
Members of the public can voice their opinion on the issue by visiting FDA.gov. The comment period is open until July 5th.
