Unemployment ticks up in Athens

Unemployment in Athens ticked up slightly last month to 2.9 percent. That’s up three-tenths of a point from July, but still half a point lower than it was a year ago.

However, the county also added jobs, ending August with 102,900 jobs, a record high. According to the Georgia Department of Labor, the county added 1,400 jobs between July and August.
