A new report says obesity rates are rising in the US

A recent report shows obesity is on the rise in the U.S.

The Trust for America’s Health released the State of Obesity 2022 report, which shows obesity rates are climbing.

"Obesity in and of itself is a health condition," said Dr. Nadine Gracia, president and CEO of the nonprofit organization. "It also increases risks of other health conditions such as Type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke and many types of cancer. And even as we've been experiencing the COVID-19 pandemic, we also saw that individuals who have obesity will have also been at increased risk from serious illness from COVID-19."

19 states have obesity adult obesity rates over 35%. Georgia’s rate was 33% in 2021.
