Low voter turnout in Athens-Clarke has led to expanded early voting hours at three locations next week. Thursday, the Board of Elections voted to extend hours at the downtown location on East Washington Street from 7 am until 7 pm Monday, October 31st through Thursday, November 3rd. A second vote extended hours at the Lyndon House and Miriam Moore Community Center from 9 am until 7 pm Monday and Tuesday.

Board of Elections Chairman Rocky Raffle said the change was made to accommodate more workers who could not make it to the polls during work hours. He says the changes come after extensive public comment.

He also wanted to acknowledge the efforts of poll workers who will be carrying the burden of those extra hours.
