A federal COVID-19 public health emergency allowed more people to qualify for Medicaid. States, including Georgia, received more federal funding, but a new report from Georgetown University Center for Children and Families says state leaders must do more to protect children's health care.
Leonardo Cuello co-authored the report.
"Georgia has not implemented 12 month continuous eligibility for children, which guarantees kids 12 months of coverage once they get enrolled," Cuello said. "And so what happens is some families get dropped after just a few months and their kids go uninsured."
The report names Georgia as one of six states where children are most likely to lose coverage when the federal protections are lifted.
