Rep. Houston Gaines Elected House Majority Caucus Vice-Chairman

Athens state Representative Houston Gaines is taking on a new leadership role at the state Capitol. Monday, House members voted Gaines in as the next House Majority Caucus Vice-Chairman for the 2023-2024 legislative term.

Responsibilities of the position include assisting with incumbent re-election, candidate recruitment and caucus fundraising.

This is the third term in the Georgia House for Gaines. He currently represents District 117 and was elected to serve in District 120 in January. The house also voted for Rep. Jon Burns to succeed House Speaker David Ralston.

Gaines spoke with WUGA about some of the challenges facing says members of the General Assembly in January.
