Athens-Clarke County commissioners are spending the day together Friday for a retreat that informally marks the beginning of the county’s annual budget process.
Today, commissioners are expected to get an overview of the process and projections for the county’s revenue in the coming year. They’ll also get updated on federal funding available - a major source of income for the government in the years after the COVID-19 pandemic.
In the coming months, commissioners will hear from department and agency heads, and this spring Mayor Kelly Girtz will put forth his budget for commissioners to modify and vote on.
