A former county commissioner and a former school board member, both vying for an open seat on the ACC Commission; will make their case to District 2 voters tonight.

Former Clarke County School Board member Kirrena Gallagher and former District 3 Commissioner Melissa Link are competing for the seat vacated last summer by Mariah Parker.

Some community members and election officials were critical of Parker’s resignation, as it came a few months before the 2022 General Election. Election officials decided to hold the District 2 election in March to avoid logistical complications with November’s election.

Tonight’s forum will be hosted by The Athens Community Agenda at 6 PM in the ACC library. Chaplain Cole Knapper and Rev. B.A. Hart. are moderating. All members of the public are welcome. Advance Voting for the March 21 special election begins on Feb. 27.
