The Clarke County Board of Education will hold a called meeting Monday, February 20 at 6 pm regarding the Georgia Square Mall redevelopment.

Board members are expected to vote on an amendment to the intergovernmental agreement between the Clarke County School District and the Athens-Clarke County government related to the Mall area TAD project.

The amendment calls for the Mayor and Commission to approve a Community Benefits Agreement. Among the items that CBA includes are:

  • A change in date
  • A request for space for a daycare
  • Making district employees a priority for affordable housing units, if possible
  • Internships for CCSD students.

The board also requests the developer make good faith efforts to provide opportunities for minority and female businesses.
The board tabled a vote on the issue at its February 9 meeting.
