Gov. Brian Kemp announced his appointment of Dr. Robert Buschman as Georgia's new state economist, effective Sept. 1.

Buschman currently serves as interim director of the Public Finance Research Cluster at Georgia State University.

He replaces Jeffrey Dorfman, a former University of Georgia economist who took a job at North Carolina State University.

Kemp said in a press release that he hopes Buschman will help to maintain Georgia’s AAA bond rating, balance state budgets, and deliver more opportunities to Georgians.
