On Sunday, UGA’s Out of the Darkness Campus Walk will attempt to raise $55,000 for suicide prevention and awareness. The organization has already raised almost $42,000 through fundraising. WUGA’s Mary Ryan Howarth has more.
The opening ceremony begins at 11:00 am, with testimonies from community members and an honor bead ceremony. Various colored beaded necklaces are available beforehand for attendees to take. The different colors symbolize the reasons people are at the event, whether to stand up for themselves, or for a loved one they have lost.
The 2.25-mile walk from 12:00 pm-1:30 pm, will start at Tate Student Center and loop around campus.
