Athens StoryCorps: James, Lindsay and Julie Darnell

James Darnell served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War and became an instructor pilot for American Soldiers. Then, as part of the Vietnamization policy, he began training South Vietnamese soldiers. In this story, he tells his daughters Julie and Lindsay Darnell about some of the students he taught and why he loved flying so much. StoryCorps Athens stories were recorded locally at the StoryCorps mobile booth at the Athens-Clarke County Library in the fall of 2018. StoryCorps is part of a national initiative to record and preserve the stories of everyday people. All of the interviews were produced locally by Morgan Frey.
