What do a human, a mouse, and a jellyfish have in common? I bet you are thinking, “eye don’t know”. Well interestingly enough, these organisms all share a common gene, PAX6, that is responsible for the development of eyes. On today’s segment, Dr. James Lauderdale, an associate professor of cellular biology at the UGA Franklin College of Arts & Sciences, chats about his research on the role of the PAX6 gene as a fundamental building block for eye development, and how his lab is using this gene to understand human vision.
