Georgia Public Broadcasting’s Political Rewind making a stop in Athens Tuesday. The statewide show went live from the WUGA studio. Executive Producer and show Host Bill Nigut discussed a variety of topics with University of Georgia experts. Dr. Charles Bullock and Dr. Audrey Haynes.

“They wanted to give me an opportunity to meet with students in the Applied Politics program, in the Journalism program, International Affairs program; and talk to them a bit about politics today and they asked me to talk a little bit about the work I’ve done in politics in the last 35 years.”

Nigut says the demand for political coverage is increasing in Georgia and the show has changed in order to meet that need.

“When Political Rewind started five and a half years ago, it was a once a week show, and in fact it was called Political Rewind initially because we were on on Friday afternoons and so it was kind of rewinding the week in politics,” according to Nigut. “The appetite for politics is so enormous that over our years on the air we kept adding days.”

In addition to addressing students, the veteran political journalist announced a major change to show the show during his trip to the Classic City.

“Starting on Monday, January 6th, we’re going to be on daily, Monday through Friday, 2 o’ clock in the afternoon. One of the things that’s really exciting to us is that the new schedule means that WUGA will be carrying the show live every day at 2 and we’re very happy about that because you’re a very important station in the NPR statewide network.”

Once again, Political Rewind expands to five days a week starting January 6th.
