UGA Professor Elected to National Academy of Engineering

University of Georgia Professor J. Marshall Shepherd has been elected to the National Academy of Engineering.

Shepherd, who is the Georgia Athletic Association Distinguished Professor of Geography and Atmospheric Sciences at UGA, was elected for his work in developing ways of understanding the Earth’s hydrometeorological and hydroclimate system and for his public communication and outreach work in climate science.

Election to the NAE is one of the highest professional honors given to an engineer or scientist, according to the organization’s website.

Shepherd is a leading international expert in weather and climate with many awards and positions to his name. Dr. Shepherd is also the host of The Weather Channel show and podcast Weather Geeks, and a contributor to Forbes Magazine.
