At $1 trillion, this infrastructure bill is the largest long-term federal investment in decades for roads, waterways, broadband, and clean water, among other public necessities. Included in the $11 billion coming to Georgia is funding for airport improvements.
On Thursday, Senator Jon Ossoff revealed that Athens-Ben Epps Airport will receive $295,000 out of the $619 million set aside for repairs and upgrades of Georgia’s airports.
Ben Epps has undergone renovations totaling $21 million in the past three years. The airport receives over 50,000 annual visitors, and though the last commercial flight was in 2014, efforts to bring back passengers are underway.
