Former Gov. Sonny Perdue will make $523,900 a year as chancellor of the University System of Georgia.
The Georgia Board of Regents named Perdue as chancellor in a vote last week. The decision ended a contentious yearlong search that was criticized by many including the American Association of University Professors.
Although the over half a million dollars a year salary is significantly more than Perdue made as Governor or as US Secretary of Agriculture, it is the same salary as Perdue’s predecessor Steve Wrigley, according to a spokesperson for the University System of Georgia.
Perdue begins as chancellor on April 1.
