Athens book lovers will have to wait a while longer before visiting the Athens-Clarke County Library on Baxter Street.

The Athens Regional Library will remain closed through Sunday, October 9, in order to allow time for the facility to be treated for bedbugs. The pests were discovered in the building on Thursday, September 29.

Executive Director Valerie Bell said, “The health and safety of our library visitors and staff are our highest priority.”

Bell apologized for any inconvenience caused by the temporary closure. The library announced on Tuesday that no overdue fines would be accrued for materials checked out from the Baxter Street library. Holds will also be extended.
