Athens library to close today to deal with bed bugs

Libraries are used to bookworms, but the Athens-Clarke County Library has a different critter to deal with today.

The Baxter Street location is closed on Friday after bed bugs were discovered on a chair on the second floor of the building Thursday.

According to a release from the library, the precautionary maintenance measures are to ensure the safety of visitors and staff. Library officials made the decision to close the building out of an abundance of caution. The building closed early on Thursday afternoon.

The library has contacted a vendor for cleaning and pest control. The Friends of the Library’s Fall Book Sale with resume when the library reopens.
