The first episode in June is the second listeners’ Appreciation show for the year. It is one of the

quarterly specials in which we acknowledge the support of our listeners for the show. The

episode is the first of several shows over the next two months that focuses on the 2022 Mandela

Washington Fellowship Leadership in Civic Engagement Institute at UGA from July 8 to July

17, 2022. The episode introduces the institute and the UGA team hosting it. The episode shares

our sad and distressful reactions to the recent tragic mass shootings in America, calling for

immediate action by elected officials to end the plaque of mas shootings in the country. The

episode also features two African news updates from Sudan with the lifting of the state of

emergency and the Sahel where violence is increasing in Mali and Burkina Faso and threatening

more of the region. The episode rounds up with the announcement and invitation for listeners to

Africa in Athens, the first community event for the 2022 MW Fellowship institute taking place at

the GA Museum of Art at 12 noon on Saturday, June 11, 2022. As always, the episode features

selected enjoyable music from Africa and/or by Africans including selected tunes from the

collection, Diaspora for Africa and tracks from the Africa Worldwide 35th Anniversary album

by Tabu Ley Rochereau and the Afrisa International Orchestra.
