With the friendly takeover by the Mandela Washington Fellows over, the first episode in August features
a dance music special celebrating all the listeners born in the month and the students and educators
returning to school in anticipation of the following week’s back to school special. The episode also
includes appreciation of all our listeners for tuning in to the six-week interview series, and everyone that
contributed to the success of the UGA leadership institute from staff, graduate students, coaches, mentors
and community collaborators. To formally close the book on the 2022 leadership institute, the episode
features a regional and country roll call of the 20 African countries that were represented by the 25
Fellows. The episode then concludes with two African news updates including the winning of the 2022
Women’s African Cup of Nations (WAFCON) competition by the South African Women’s National
team, the Bayana Bayana and the forthcoming presidential elections in Kenya scheduled for August 9,
2022. As always, the episode featured selected enjoyable music from Africa and/or by Africans
including tracks from Congo’s Loketo featuring Aurlus Mabele and Diblo Diabala, and Nigeria’s Tiwa
Savage.
