This second episode in October is the first of four planned shows throughout the month to feature conversations with the 2022-2023 Fulbright Foreign Language Teaching Assistants (FLTA) in the UGA African Studies Institute. The program sponsored by the US Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs is designed to develop Americans’ knowledge of foreign cultures and languages. The episode features a celebration of the Republic of Uganda celebrating 60 years of political independence from Britain. The episode broke the news of a second coup within a year in Burkina Faso led by Captain Ibrahim Traore as well as all the security challenges facing the new government. The episode also reissued the announcement of the 2022 African Studies Institute Fall Lecture scheduled for October 20, 2022 at the UGA Chapel with the title, ‘Place, Process, and the Public Designing for Community Impact. The episode rounds up with the first conversation in the FLTA series with the 2022-2023 UGA-Yoruba Language FLTA, Ms. Aishat Funmilayo Aina. As always, the episode features selected enjoyable music from Africa and/or by Africans including wonderful selections from Ebenezer Obey Evergreen Songs collection, and Putumayo Presents Acoustic Africa.
