Project Safe opens new thrift store in Danielsville

Project Safe is celebrating the grand opening of a new thrift store in Danielsville. Proceeds will support the Athens nonprofit, which works to eliminate domestic violence. Executive director Joan Prittie says the facility is already receiving strong support from the community.

“We had a donation day on August 2nd, just inviting folks to come on that Saturday to bring donations to the store,” Prittie said. “And I knew when I saw that the social media post had been shared 81 times, that we were going to have a good turnout and people sure did. What I didn’t expect were just the wonderful stories that people had to share. We had a number of former clients who came and said that we had helped them in the past.”

The new store will start accepting donations beginning Friday, August 29th and on Fridays and Saturdays after that.

“The one thing that makes our thrift store a little bit unusual is that our clients, Project Safe clients, can shop at the store for free. We also give vouchers to some of our community partners and school children can also get items that they need for free.”

The grand opening is Saturday, August 23rd from 11 am until 5 pm. The thrift store is located at 295 Sam Groves St. and will be open Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday 11-5, and Friday 12-7.
