Athens-Clarke County 10-Year Comprehensive Plan Update

ACC Government

The Athens-Clarke County government is beginning the process of updating the community-wide Comprehensive Plan.
The plan is a main source for identifying the vision, goals, policies, needs, opportunities, and work program over the next ten years. County Manager Blaine Williams says, though it's a separate effort, the plan will work with the Envision Athens study currently underway.

"The Comprehensive Plan is about what the government will do over the next ten years in the community and Envision Athens is bigger than that." Williams said. "What we wanted to do to align the government activities with other stakeholders in the community across different areas, was to use Envision Athens as a proxy in interacting with the public to help inform the Comp plan."

There will be some time for public input, following a a brief presentation. That public input will be limited to the time allowed by the Planning Commission bylaws.

The Mayor and Commission, along with the Planning Commission , are responsible for developing the Comprehensive Plan and approving it. A separate group will work to get the plan  through the system.

The launch of the 2018 Comprehensive Plan Process will take place during the regular Planning Commission meeting, Thursday, June 1 at 7 pm.
Every community in Georgia is required by the state to create a Comprehensive Plan and update it every ten years.
