State lawmakers did not approve legislation providing for tax free holidays, resulting in no tax free weekends for 2017. Georgia’s back-to-school shoppers can no longer look forward to the annual sales they attend on tax-free weekend. Instead, the weekend of July 29-30, will be another regular weekend for shoppers. Over the years, many of Georgia’s families, teachers and students have used the summer holiday weekend to stock up on school supplies and clothes while also saving money. Clothing worth up to $100 and school supplies worth up to $20 were among the items on which state sales tax was waived. Georgia consumers who live near state lines have other options if they still want to pursue the sales. Several neighboring states are holding late-summer tax-free weekends, including Alabama (Aug. 4-6), Florida (Aug. 4-6), South Carolina (Aug. 4-6) and Tennessee (July 28-30).
