A multi-state service outage at Verizon began affecting cell phone customers Monday morning has been restored. A large portion of Georgia was affected, along with parts of Alabama, Tennessee, and the Carolinas. Customers in Athens reported not able to make or receive phone calls, but they were able to send texts during that outage. The outage began Monday morning and service was restored Monday afternoon. An outage report provided by the company showed Athens was the most heavily affected city in the state during that outage.
