Blake Fulenwider, a health care consultant, has been announced as the new chief of Georgia Medicaid. He is replacing Linda Wiant, who left last month without an official explanation, according to Georgia Health News.

Fulenwider will also become the deputy commissioner of the Georgia Department of Community Health. The Medical Assistance Plans Division, which includes the Medicaid and PeachCare for Kids programs, is the largest section of the Department of Community Health.

Before being appointed to his new role, Fulenwider was the Georgia director of a consulting practice, Total Spectrum.  He will start his new position and chief of Medicaid on September 15.

Fulenwider, a University of Georgia graduate, also previously worked with Gov. Nathan Deal when Deal was a congressman in the House of Representatives on health care policy issues.
