Two Men Charged After Shooting Incident Near Madision County School Bus

The Madison County Sheriffs' Office is investigating after an altercation between two men included shots being fired while a school bus loaded with children was in the area of Honeysuckle Road and Jack Sharp Road.

According to Online Athens Madison County sheriff’s Chief Deputy Jeff Vaughn said Friday that investigators consulted with the district attorney’s office before filing the charges.

Robert Marcus Jones, 41, of Colbert, was charged with trespassing and simple assault.

Telley Clarke, 42, was charged with aggravated assault, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, possession of a firearm during a crime, reckless conduct and tampering with evidence.

The shooting occurred at Clarke’s house on Honeysuckle Road in Hull.

Both suspects remained in custody while investigators worked the case, including speaking with the students on the bus, Vaughn said.

According to Madison County Superintendent Dr. Allen McCannon, a child was exiting the bus Tuesday afternoon when the apparent sound of gunfire was heard. The driver got the child back on the bus and left the scene immediately. No one was injured and no shots struck the bus. McCannon said one of the suspects barricaded himself inside a home for a time. Superintendent McCannon rode the bus home with students after the incident. He says he has been communicating with parents.
