ACCPD Receives Justice Department Grant for Body Cameras

The Athens-Clarke County Police Department has been awarded a federal grant for body cameras. According to a release from Public Information Officer Epifanio Rodriguez, the department received more than $56,375 from the U.S. Justice Department, those funds combined with money from the ACC Commission, will allow all 242 of the department’s authorized officers to be equipped with body cameras.

Athens Police first used body cams in early 2014. Since that time, a total 187 camera units have been successfully deployed by the department’s Field Operations Division. Grant funds may be used for any part of the body cam program except for data storage costs, which can only be covered with matching program funds. A 50% program match is required. Funds must be used within two years of the award.
