University of Georgia professor Barry Hollander passed away Tuesday morning. The Grady professor was a former journalist, the author of a blog, and had been a panelist on Athens News Matters in the past.
In a Twitter post, Grady Newsource said Hollander will be dearly missed. According to a post on his twitter page, a group of UGA Alumni is working to create a memorial or scholarship fund to honor Hollander.
A self-described hack journalist, net junkie and number cruncher, Hollander spoke on the impact of social media on journalism on an edition of WUGA’s Classic City Science.
"We use social media for a lot of things journalistically. We use it as radar to what's going on. We use it to promote our own work. We use it engage with our audience. But really it's all about, sadly sometimes, clicks, or viewers, if you're on broadcast," said Hollander.
Hollander had previously written about his battle with illness on Medium.
