Georgia survivors of Hurricane Irma whose Disaster Loans were not approved by the U.S. Small Business Administration have the right to appeal. The agency issued a release today to remind those affected by Irma and Maria that they can file for reconsideration or appeal. Those who are denied will receive letters explaining the reason for the decision. In the aftermath of declared disasters, such as hurricanes Irma and Maria in Florida, Georgia, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands, the SBA assists businesses of all sizes, private nonprofits organizations, homeowners and renters with their recovery by offering low-interest disaster loans.
If an applicant disagrees with the SBA’s loan decision, they should follow the instruction in the SBA’s letter to request another review of their application package. The will have up to six months from the date of their decision letter to request reconsideration. Applicants can call the SBA’s Customer Service Center or visit any recovery center for help with their case.
