FEMA Advice for Preparing for Disaster Situations

FEMA has released a list of commonsense measures and mitigation tips for Georgians to prepare for disasters. Many communities around the state, including Athens suffered losses from hurricane Irma in 2017 and then were hit with damage from winter storms.

FEMA’s advice includes: planning for 3 to a week of crucial necessities for you, your family and your pets. Among the items they suggest adding to your emergency kit, medication, one gallon of water per person per day, nonperishable food items, first aid kits, and battery-power or hand crank radios and cash.
