ACC Water Conservation Office Participating in National "Fix a Leak" Week

ACC Water Conservation Office

Many occasions are recognized during the month of March; this week is national Fix a Leak Week.

The Athens-Clarke Water Conservation Office is joining the Environmental Protection Agency’s Water Sense Program in participating in National Fix a Leak Week. ACC Water Conservation Coordinator Laurie Loftin says the annual reminder can make a big difference.

"Speaking personally, my water bill doubled when I had a leaky toilet for one month's time. And I should know better," said Loftin. "I didn't fix my leak immediately, not thinking that it could waste that much. A toilet is the biggest culprit for leaks in a house. It can lose 200 gallons a day, times 30 days, you're talking 600 gallons of water wasted a month."

The office is providing free toilet tablets to check for leaks.

One leaky toilet could potentially add a $100 charge on a water bill each month.
