An advocacy group backed by various transportation, insurance and business organizations says Georgia has progressed in addressing a backlog of road projects, but should spend hundreds of millions of dollars more to improve its aging infrastructure.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution cites the report TRIP released Thursday as saying the state Transportation Department has increased road maintenance funding from nearly $230 million in 2015 to more than $450 million this year.
But, TRIP's report also found dozens of metro Atlanta projects that have no funding, and without it will not proceed until at least 2022.
TRIP's director of research and policy, Rocky Moretti, says more road funding is "absolutely crucial" as Georgia prepares for another 2.5 million people in the next decades, many of whom will be coming to the Atlanta area.
