AthFest 2018 kicks off this evening in downtown Athens.
The three day music and arts festival is a yearly highlight, featuring a variety of national and local acts, performing at outdoors stages and indoors at night during the club crawl, giving music fans plenty of options.
Gabe Vodicka is the music editor of Flagpole magazine. “[The setup is] maybe one of my favorite parts of AthFest,” Vodicka said, “You can just pop in and out, see bits and pieces of every act. Everything is just so close together that it’s not hard to do.”
Among the highlights of tonight’s club crawl performances, according to Vodicka, are sets by singer-songwriter Holly Golightly and T. Hardy Morris. “Holly Golightly is a British singer-songwriter who is maybe best known for her collaborations over the years. Particularly a lot of us will recognize her for collaborating with The White Stripes, which she did on their album ‘Elephant’,” Vodicka said, “Hardy of course is a local favorite who has made quite a name for himself outside of Athens. He’s going to release his first record in three years. The AthFest show at the Georgia Theatre is sort of serving as an album release show.”
Other performers include Dirty Dozen Brass Band and Lingua Franca, who perform tonight on the main outdoor stage, and Elf Power, performing Sunday on the main stage. A full schedule of events can be found at AthFest.com.
