Morgan County "Place in Peril" Protected

Madison-Morgan Conservancy

A historic home in Morgan County has been identified as one of the “Places in Peril” by the Georgia Trust for Historic Preservation.

The Foster-Thomason-Miller House, built in 1883, has been disused for decades after withstanding two fires and failed attempts to transform the building into a bed and breakfast.

Recently, however, the Madison-Morgan Conservancy, a non-profit that aims to conserve local historic sites and natural spaces, bought the property from former owners Von and Christy Friesen, and is now listed for sale to a conservation buyer who will agree to rehabilitate the building to certain standards.

The property is the first recipient of the Conservancy’s new Endangered Properties Revolving fund, which aims to purchase endangered properties in order to carry out repairs to ready the property to be sold back into the private market.

The house on 1.024 acres is available for $449,000.

The 5,000 square foot home was restored in 1986 and includes five bedrooms, two bathrooms, a parlor, library, dining room and central hall. The architecture invokes elements of Queen Anne, Italianate, and Gothic Revival styles.

The property is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is regulated by Madison’s local historic district.
