Groovy Nights 2018, Fundraiser for Project Safe

The battle of the best gets underway this weekend. The 17th annual Goovy Nights dance party takes place at the Foundry tomorrow at 8 pm. Several teams will engage in the Battle of the Decades 70s versus 80s Lip Sync battle.

Kendall Wormen is the Project Safe Community Involvement Volunteer Coordinator   she says every vote counts.

“Folks will vote for their favorite team using their dollars, so one dollar is equal to one vote and throughout the night people just vote for their favorite team,” Wormen said. “We have a lot of volunteers who help out, it’s a really fun event.”

The nonprofit Project Safe works to end domestic violence and provides a variety of services.

“We have out emergency shelter which is where we house survivors for up to three months, we also have a 24/7 hotline that exists at our shelter, we also have outreach services which is where we support victims of domestic violence with counseling, support groups, legal advocacy, things like that.”

The organization also provides an unusual source of assistance.

“We also have a thrift store here in Athens, which is a really unique part of what we do, our clients can shop there for free.”

Doors open at the Foundry at 7 pm.  Tickets are $25, $18 for students, and can be purchased online or at the door. 90 cents of every dollar Projects Safe makes goes to services, as does 100% of Groovy nights’ proceeds.
