13 Students Suspended After Fight at Clarke Central High School

Clarke County School District

On Wednesday, August 29, multiple physical altercations broke out at Clarke Central High School. According to Athens Banner-Herald, 13 students were suspended from school as a result of the fights.

In a statement to parents, Dr. Swade Huff, principal of the school, reassured parents that their students’ safety is the schools top priority.

“At Clarke Central High School, our primary goal is to ensure that your child receives the best education possible in a safe and orderly school environment,” Huff states. “Our priority is to give every student the opportunity to engage academically, socially and emotionally in a space which is conducive to teaching and learning.”

Because the events began with altercations on social media outside of the school, Huff stressed to parents that it is important for parents, students, and community members to notify the school if they believe something will take place at school that will be potentially disruptive or harmful to students.

“It is imperative that we, as a school community, work together to ensure that we have the same expectations for all students that enter our school.  We need the support of parents to keep the lines of communication open,” Huff says.
