Athens Road Runners to Host Upcoming 'Milledge Mile' Race

Avid runners and novices alike are invited to take part in the Classic City’s newest race.

The Athens Road Runners and sponsors are hosting the Milledge Mile next weekend.

The race, which takes place Saturday, September 8th, is certified. There’s a bonus for the male who breaks the 4-minute mile mark and the woman who comes in under 4:30.

Sara Freeland and Greg Waddell are officers with Athens Road Runners.

“On any given Saturday in Athens there are probably three 5Ks, there’s a couple half-marathons all over the state, but there are not a lot of mile races,” according to Freeland. “So I’m really excited.”

The first heats start at 7:30 am.

"It’s not where it’s a race where all thousand runners at some point may be in that one race," Waddell said. “we’re going to have heats. So you will be racing against people that are of your same performance level.”

To register go to active.com or visit Milledge mile on Facebook

Runners can register through September 5th, and on race day by 7 am.

The race will include prizes, bonuses and medals. Organizers hope to make this an annual event.
