Athens Water Festival 2018

ACC Government

Athens-Clarke County is hosting a Water Festival Saturday from 10:30 am until 2: pm at Sandy Creek Park. Laurel Loftin, with the Water Conservation Office says, Attendees at the family-friendly event are asked to collect the Infinite Stones to help protect the world and water from threats.

“We had gone with Infinite Stones because water is an infinite resource, it’s constantly renewing itself,” according to Loftin. “However, water can become a finite resource depending on your area; if you are prone to droughts, or population size, or if you are just in a location without easy access to a natural water source.”

Loftin says several other activities are planned.

“We have over 22 organizations coming to provide us with hands-on interactive games, activities and displays. For example, this year we have the UGA Marine Sciences Department coming with a favorite of ours. They bring sea life, so children who don’t get a chance to get away from the Athens area very often have this experience where they can touch real sea critters.”

Some unexpected treats will also be available.

“We also have the UGA Bug Dawgs, and this year the Water Conservation office will be busy making chocolate chirp cookies which will have crickets in them.”

The festival is free, but parking at Sandy Creek park is $2.00.
