ATLANTA (AP) — A Georgia judge has ordered a redo in a state House primary election where dozens cast their ballots in the wrong race.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports Chris Erwin had appeared to have won the House District 28 Republican primary in May by 67 votes over Rep. Dan Gasaway.
But Gasaway discovered that mapping mistakes led hundreds of voters to receive letters assigning them to the wrong House district.
On Wednesday, Senior Superior Court Judge David Sweat ruled that a new Republican primary election will take place Dec. 4.
The district includes about half of Habersham County, as well as Banks and Stephens counties in Georgia’s northeast corner.
Because there is no Democrat in the race, the winner will become the district’s state representative.
Erwin says he is ready to “run and win again.”
