UGA Research Center Hosting Stroke Care Conference

UGA's Center for Complex Carbohydrate Research

The University of Georgia Complex Carbohydrate Research Center will host a conference highlighting “cutting-edge work” in stroke research.

The Oct. 13 conference, titled “St. Mary's Neurology Conference: Once and Future Stroke Care – Statins, Stents and Stem Cells,” will host featured speakers on topics like stroke prevention, brain injury therapies, and emergent technologies for stoke treatment.

The press release cites stroke as the “No. 1 cause of disability in adults” and “one of the worst killers in the United States.”

The effects of stroke can leave “hundreds of thousands of Americans” with effects like decreased movement, speech, memory, vision, hearing, and a loss of independence.

The conference is free and open to the public. Registration is required and includes a light lunch, snacks, and all conference materials.

Anyone interested can visit St. Mary’s website or call St. Mary Medical Education Coordinator Chrys Moore at 706-389-3848.

Continuing education credit will be available for physicians and emergency medical services personnel.
