UGA's 2018 Spotlight on the Arts

The 2018 Spotlight on the Arts Festival gets under with a celebration kickoff this evening at 7:30 at UGA’s Performing Arts Center. Russ Mumper is Arts Council Chair and Vice Provost for Academic Affairs. He says the entire community is welcome to attend the free Kaleidoscope opening.

“This year will be better than the last year, which I thought was excellent,” Mumper said. “There’s been a number of student groups across the performing arts, fine arts, creative writing, that have actually applied and it’s going to represent a broad kaleidoscope of the performing arts and visual arts.”

He says it’s a spectacle meant to be witnessed first-hand.

“You have to really come to appreciate and see in first person.”

The 7th annual festival celebrates the visual, literary and performing arts on campus.

Camie Williams, Public Relations Specialist, says there are dozens of events and exhibitions to attend, many for free.

“We’ve got dozens of performances from our School of Music, we’ve got a play put on by the university theatre, this year the play is Equus,” according to Williams. “Our Department of Dance will put on three performances and there’s a lot of visiting lecturers and other things that you might not expect.”

This year’s festival has more than 100 events. More information on the 2018 Spotlight on the Arts festival, including a schedule of events, can be found at arts.uga.edu.
